Head of Wall: Contractors are often required, by the the model building codes (i.e., IBC 2000), to provide firestopping at the interface of a fire-rated wall and a fire-rated floor/ceiling assembly or roof deck assembly. The fire-rated assemblies must be tested in accordance with UL 2079. Section 712.1 General of the IBC states:

Section 712.1 General. Joints installed in or between fire resistance rated walls, floor or floor-ceiling assemblies shall be protected by an approved fire resistance joint system designed to resist the passage of the fire for a time period of not less then the required fire resistance rating of the wall, floor or roof in or between which it is installed.

Section 712.3 Fire test Criteria. Fire resistance joint systems shall be tested in accordance with requirments of UL 2079 "Tests for fire Resistance of the Building Joint Systems".

Edge of Slab: Firestopping at the "perimeter slab edge", which is gaps between the floors and the backpan of the curtain wall or precast concrete panels, slow the passage of fire and conbustion gases between floors. The firestop at the perimeter slab edge isconsidered a continuation of the fire resistance rating of the floor slab. The curtain wall itself, however, is not ordinarily required to have a rating. Fire compartmentalisation is based upon compartments enclosed on all sides to aviod fire and smoke migratin beyond each engaged compartment. A non-fire-resistance rated curtain wall prevents the complete compartment (or enevlope) from being fire-resistance rated. The provision of firestopping at the joint of the floor slab and curtain wall still add to the overall fire safety of the building by slowing the advance of the fire in the building interior from floor to floor.

Retro-Fit: Bring existing building up to currecnt Life Safety and Building Codes in accordance with local Building Officials.

Penetration: Penetrating items passing entirely through both protective membranes of bearing walls are required to have a fire-resistance rating and wall requiring protective openings.

Water Proof Penetration: An optional rating for through penetrations Firestop systems is offen required. This determines the effectiveness of a firestop system to restrict the flow of water. Class 1- rated firestops have been shown to resist up to 3 feet of water column for 72 hours.

Grease Duct / Plenum Wrap: Plenum Instulation is a high temperature instulation blanket specifically designed to provide a single layer, flexible enclosure around combustible items located within fire-rated return air plenums.

Diamond Core Drilling: This type of drilling provides quick, clean, accurate holes through a variety of masonary or concrete to make it through - openings for plumbing, electrical and HVAC installations.
